If you told me that I could easily relieve my own stress and anxiety with this technique I would not have believed you.  I had to try this myself and trust me, I doubted it every step of the way.

This is one of the reasons I tell you to start out with an open mind and just try it.

What am I talking about?

I am talking about touch meditation with a twist.

There is this thing that happens to us when we get stressed out or anxious.

It may not be in this exact order or the exact symptoms for you.

But this is how they happen to me.

I get nervous, I breathe differently, and then I feel it in my body.

This took me a while to figure out with my own research and some help. This is what I came up with.

First, I must pay attention to the present moment and ask myself what is going on.

What am I feeling?

Why am I feeling this?

How can I make it better now?

  1. Open your attention to the present moment.
  2. Focus on your breathing.  How are you breathing?
  3. How is your body feeling?  Bring all of your attention to your body.

It’s important to realize that mindfulness helps us learn to stay with the difficult feelings, without judging ourselves, without holding back, and letting them be.

I found that when I did allow those things to occur, they left me a lot quicker.

This also allows you to look at the reasons that you’re feeling stressed and worrying.  We often spend a lot of our energy trying to get away from it instead of dealing with it.

You also will learn how to deal with the stress, worries, or whatever comes your way a lot easier without letting it consume you.

As always I want to remind you to talk to someone if you need to and don’t be embarrassed by asking for help.  It shows that you are strong in realizing that you need help and that my friend is amazing.

I have to take you back to the touch meditation with a twist as I started telling you about it.  This is a simple technique that includes adding lotion and a massage to your hands.  I found a book that talks about acupressure points and it totally worked for me.

As the author wrote in this book, the next time you feel anxious or stressed reach out and feel an acupressure point.  It basically asks you to massage your HT7 point for one minute on each hand. As explained this acupressure point is below your wrist crease, where your outer hand is.*  To further enhance this I add lotion, an essential oil like lavender and massage my hands.  This is a great way to focus, and relax which is also a form of meditation for me.  You can read more about this in the book, Instant Calm by Karen Salmosohn https://amzn.to/2Ht860f.

I want to remind you to do something daily to relieve your stress and don’t forget that it all does start with you.
