Pressing pause and taking a deep breath or a couple.

It’s Tuesday and you are probably wondering why I am already talking about pressing your pause button and taking deep breaths.  That’s exactly right, there is really no better day to do this than today. I mean you know I talk about doing things daily to help you relieve stress, and people, this is one of them.

What exactly is pressing pause? It’s so easy, it’s going to make you laugh.  Let’s start out by stopping what you are doing at this present moment.  You have pressed your pause button. You have stopped whatever it was that you were doing to pay attention to yourself.

We can pause at any time of our day, taking a moment to notice where we are, what we are doing and what we are feeling.  When you find yourself going at one hundred miles an hour, press that dawg on button, the pause button that is.  You can stop for a few seconds, step out of automatic pilot and bring awareness to what is happening in your life right now, in your body, your mind and environment.*

So how exactly do you do this? In the Be present in the moment book by Tessa Watt, she talks about this amazingly simple practice.  Take a few moments and to notice whatever is right here, right now.  Your body, your thoughts and your emotions.  The environment around you, any sights, sounds or smells. *

Take a few mindful breaths, being aware of the movement of your breath in and out of your body.

Take three deep breaths, and blow them out with force, pretending that there is a helium balloon floating in front of you, and you want to blow it away.  You will feel a sudden feeling of relaxation and your body will feel more relaxed.

Lastly, schedule this time for yourself daily. You deserve a break from it all. Trust me, it will be worth it.  Now press that pause button.
