Finding community is important and feeling supported makes us all feel better.
I remember the first time that I joined an online group. I had these feelings of uncertainty and I didn’t know if I could trust anyone in the group.
Yeah, talk about being a bit paranoid and really living up to the “cop” thing. Don’t trust anyone.
Well, I want to tell you how I was so wrong and my closest friendships are people who I connected with in my business groups, spiritual groups and the list goes on. I can say that happily.
This is why I decided that though it is a bit scary and putting yourself out there. Literally. It was important to form a community where people know they are supported by one of their own.
Who is this community for? It is for First Responders.
What is a First Responder? Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, Volunteer First aiders/Fire Fighters, Military Personnel. That doesn’t stop you from being a part of my group if it resonates with you and it is helping you relieve your stress.
I’ll back up a little bit and become truly transparent and say that that this job changed me.
It changed me in ways that scared me and that also made me face what I needed to face.
I thank all those people who made it extremely difficult for me, and the ones that judged me on a daily basis.
They helped me reach inside and find the strength that I needed to overcome many of those obstacles.
I am here to tell you that the strength of community is huge. It was a huge shifting factor for me.
What does this look like? This community thing.
I will share what I did and see if it is a fit for you.
You look for like-minded groups/individuals and subscribe to their channels, groups, pages etc.
You are probably already doing that if you have joined law enforcement groups, first aid groups, school groups, etc.
You join those groups and you either connect or sit back and see what they have to offer.
There are many groups that you may never ever say anything in and it is purely information based.
There will be those groups that you join that ask you to be involved and you still are like…umm yeah, not comfortable.
Yeah, I get that, one hundred percent.
I do suggest that you go into the groups and get the information that you need and if you do connect to people then it’s a plus.
My goal in the groups and community that I have formed or created is to provide you with Wellness tips. Those wellness tips include how to deal with stress, mindfulness tools such as meditation and breathing.
Though our jobs are not easy, it does not mean that we cannot do things daily to relieve our stress. To learn ways to feel better and reach out to people who can help us get there.
Now I ask you, have you connected to a community? If not, what are you waiting for?
Please do something daily to relieve your stress.
Place yourself on top of the list.
Do you have questions and can’t wait to ask? You can email me at [email protected].
