This week has been a LONG week.

Can I get an AMEN?

I spoke about how important it is to find time to destress daily and to do things that make you feel better.

What happens when those plans get turned upside down?

You stop, acknowledge it, find people to help you and push through it.

I normally would come on and do this post live, but I don’t have a voice.

You know how I tell you to listen to your body and if something doesn’t feel right, get it checked out.

Yeah!!!

Well I did that, I listened to my own advice, because I have been known to be stubborn.

I’m owning that.

I can’t deliver this week’s recap with my voice; it doesn’t stop me from sharing what is important and what needs to be done to relieve our stress.

Tip#1- Listen to your body.

If something doesn’t feel right, call your doctor and get it checked out.

If for some reason you get told that there’s nothing wrong, but you feel inside that there is. Get a second opinion.

How can you do this and track your symptoms?

Grab your JOURNAL.  I know I tell you to journal everything, but this is a great way to keep track.

Write down everything that you are feeling, aches/pains, etc., times and dates.

Take this with you to your doctor’s appointment.

Tip #2-Meditate

I talk about meditation a lot and I love this practice.

This is a GREAT way to listen your body more.

How do you do this?

Sit comfortably with your feet on the ground.

Take in a deep breath.  You are going to do this three times. Blow out the air slowly.

Start at your feet and scan your body.

You are paying attention to every part of your body until you get to the top of your head.

What are you feeling?  Is there something bothering you?

WRITE IT DOWN!!!

Tip #3-Tune into your feelings.

I say this all the time and I will say it forever.

We as First Responders take care of everyone’s problems, we come up with solutions and we use our best selves to help as many people as possible.

You have feelings too.

You are entitled to feel whatever way you want to.

Sometimes we don’t feel like we deserve a break or a mental health day because everyone comes before us.

YOU have to find the time, be creative with how you do it and pause. Pause and listen to yourself.

Hit PAUSE when you need to.

Tip #4-Start a self-care practice that resonates with you.

I could give you tips all day long, but if they don’t resonate with you and they sound crazy, you aren’t going to do them.

What is it that you really want to do?

Could it be taking flying lessons, taking golf classes, taking yoga class, getting a massage, skydiving…this list goes on.

Whatever it is that you want to do, it includes things that not only help you relieve your stress, but that also make you happy.

Creating a self-care routine will not only do this but it will be beneficial to your health and sanity.

Alright people, I hope that you are taking care of yourself and that you are doing something daily to relieve your stress.

Please take time daily and stay safe out there.
