This week I am talking about breathing.

Say what?

Well it is something you are already doing and it costs ZERO dollars.

Who doesn’t want a nice bargain and something that you are already good at.

Everybody breathes and breathing affects everything. *

We can definitely live without food and water for a few days, but we can’t live without breathing.

Oxygen is sustenance in a way that food can never be.

The best way to take care of yourself is to deal with the most important thing first, which is your breathing.

Oxygen is your body’s fuel at the cellular level-it’s how you nourish your brain and muscles.

So now back to breathing.

You do this all day long.

How well you breathe is the best indicator of how healthy you are and how long you will live.

Dr. Andrew Weil says it best.  If he had to limit his advice on healthier living, it would be to learn how to breathe correctly.*

Proper breathing nourishes the cells of the body with oxygen, and optimizes the functioning of the body on all levels.*

Can breathing properly help reduce stress?

Yes…by changing your breathing you will be able to control stress.

In Dr. Vranich’s book, Breathe, she states that you can do this by doing the following:

  1. Deactivating dysfunctional breathing patterns.
  2. By realigning your breathing to work with your body, not against it.

Stop and notice how you are breathing right now.

Are you taking deep breaths in?

The way that you breathe affects your entire body.  Breathing exercises are a good way to relax, reduce tension and relieve stress.

You know I talk about identifying your stress style, finding ways to feel better and doing them daily.

These breathing exercises are so easy to do and learn.  You can do them anywhere and you don’t need any expensive

equipment or a special room to do them in.

There’s a great article on how to do these breathing exercises and you pick the one that resonates with you.

Remember that it all starts with you.

You have to make time for yourself daily.

Do things that make you feel better.

And take better care of yourself by placing yourself on top of the list.
