Replay week:  Wellness Wednesday and you guessed it, meditation.

I talk about your stress style and identifying what is stressing you out and then doing something to relieve it.

Though it may not seem like it is easy to do this at times, it’s important for you to acknowledge that you’re the most important person in your life.  It all starts with you.  Let me put it in other words.  You matter to your family.  They need you to be healthy and to be happy.

This means doing things that make you happy as well.

That could be something as simple as having a cup of coffee in pure SILENCE.

No one can tell you what’s going to make you happy. You are the only person that knows what that is.

Umm., I didn’t do this always.

I actually never stopped to do things for myself.

I was constantly doing things for everyone else.

Nope it wasn’t always the case for me and I will be honest, I didn’t choose the best or healthiest ways to deal with stress.

What am I talking about?

I am talking about those behaviors;  things that we do to relieve our stress on the go.

  1. When you work crazy schedules, and you don’t get enough sleep, you tend to reach for quick and easy meals, which often don’t translate to HEALTHY.
  2. Not working out, because of the excuse, I don’t have enough time.
  3. Not getting enough sleep because the schedule is awful, or you are dealing with stressful situations that stop you from getting a good night’s sleep.

The list goes on.

Let’s talk about things that you may have tried and they just didn’t work, or you didn’t like them.

I am going to pick meditation.

I can’t  tell you how many times people have rolled their eyes at me, and actually laughed about this.

As a First Responder, I can tell you that I was one of those people that was like, why is this fool talking to me about meditation? Does this person not know what I do?

Well people, that is exactly why they should be talking to us about this.

Meditation is your chance to quiet your mind and figure out what it is you need to do at that particular moment to bring you back to YOU!

Whoa!!! I know that’s a lot but this is what meditation is to me.

Now, meditation is many things, and there are many different ways that I practice it and I want to share them with you.

Are they always easy? NO

Does my mind wander? YES.

Do I stop doing this just because it’s not working? NO.

I feel like I am a Meditation pusher, and I am going to own that.

One simple technique that you can use anywhere, I mean ANYWHERE is the breath meditation.

You are having a moment; you are feeling some kind of way and you need a break.

BAM! Take a deep breath.

Breathe in through your nose deeply.

Now blow out the air as if there was a helium balloon floating in front of you and you want to blow it away.

I know it’s silly, but it works.

Now do this three times.

What does this have to do with meditation.

Well, you stopped to focus on your breath.

You probably were not taking full breaths at that moment.

You stopped and focused on you and that is what it is all about.

These are my tips, things that I do daily, and my own interpretation.

They work for me and maybe, just maybe will work for one person out here.

Isn’t that what this is all about?

Helping each other, networking, sharing, and caring about our wellness?

I am all about that.

I hope that you are taking time for yourself daily.

That you are doing something to relieve your stress.

Please stay safe out there.

If this resonates with you, please share it out.
